BRIDLES and BOSALS

NEW! Braided bridles and matching tack!

I am now delving into the wonderful world of braided bridles. They are made authentically and can also include varying colors, leather or remain all natural rawhide. I can also braid over a leather core California style. Matching tack includes a matching braided applique breast collar and matching pad with wear leathers and tassles.

Left to right: single strand braided rawhide bridle Donated to Lauire Lape's live show 2002; black rawhide bosal with braided accent hanger owned by artist; double strand braided rawhide bridle owned by Kathleen Kirch.
My bridles are all made with the thinnest lace I can make in order to allow them to lie without bulk. They are typically stained to match a particular saddle as part of a set, however, they can be made to any color you choose.
Bridles can be made with any combination of headstall, reins and bit choices. This includes split reins, romel reins, braided roping reins etc. If you have something in mind and are not sure, just ask! English bridles can be made of any color, and with your choice of bits or hackamores. Rein options include rubber, laced, plain, raised etc.

WESTERN BRIDLES

This braided rawhide bridle is enhanced with silver ferules and beads. It is fully adjustable, and is legal by USAEq and most breed associations. It does include a chin strap (not shown in picture). Donated to Fall Fiesta 2002, owned by Lori Sala.

This is a close-up of a recent bosal. It has been meticulously braided in the exact manner a real bosal is made, with the eight-plait core, braided/woven heel knot, side buttons and nose button with woven in dark patterns, hand-made "horse hair" macate that will hold its position and bears a remarkable resemblance to the real thing in scale and with "horsehair" tassels that will hold their "bounce" position. This bosal is held by a double slip-ear style hanger with silver ferrules that is fully adjustable by silver buckles on both sides. Additional crown pieces of varying lengths are readily available for maximum flexibility.

I can also customize any show bridle using the bit of your choice. This bridle has two slip ears and silver tongue-style buckles. The romel reins lie naturally and have authentic silver ferrules and an authentic leather popper at the end of the romel. This set has a matching double strand ferruled breast collar.

This braided set is made with natural and "dyed rawhide" with a combination of flat braid and round briad. The browband is made with a five-plait flat braid with both green and natural; the throatlatch is made witha green round braid; the crownpiece is a natural round braid accented with natural horsehair tassles; and the split reins are six-strand flat braid with both green and natural. The matching breast collar is made with a matching rawhide applique. Braided rawhide tack can be made with a variety of colors, and can have a saddle mad made to match (see below)

This is an example of a working buckaroo bridle, made with NO hardware. The bosal is one of my earlier ones and is bulkier than they are today. This bridle has an authentic knotted brow band and authentic fiadore- you think these are hard to tie life-sized, just try to do one in miniature!

ENGLISH BRIDLES

Here is an example of my mechanical hackamore made for jumping. It has working buckles and leather keepers all the way around. The nosepiece of the hackamore is adjustable and can include a fuzzy cover. It has a raised browband. The reins are white "rubber".

This is an example of my cross-country style bridle, made with very small lace to keep the scale more appropriate. It has working buckles all around and leather keepers. It also has a raised browband. It sports a figure eight noseband and brown "rubber" reins.
